Dining chairs decide how comfortable your family meals feel, and the height of the back changes both comfort and looks. Our marble dining sets come with two chair heights, so this guide uses those real sizes to compare a taller back with a lower one. All products are currently 30% off with free pan-India delivery.

High back vs low back at a glance

  • Support: a taller back supports more of the spine during long meals.

  • Look: high backs look formal and grand; lower backs look light and modern.

  • Space: lower backs keep the room open and don't block windows.

  • On our sets: most chairs list 89 cm high; three sets list 82 cm.

When taller chairs make sense

Choose taller chairs if your family sits long over dinner, if elders need back support, or if you want a formal, grand dining room. Most sets in our marble top dining collection list 89 cm chairs.

When a lower back makes sense

Choose a lower back if your dining area is part of the living room, is small, or sits in front of a window. The Cream Italian, Golden Onyx and Royal Onyx sets list 82 cm chairs.

How to test chair comfort

  • Sit for a few minutes, not seconds, as you would at dinner.

  • Check where the backrest meets your back.

  • Push the chair in and see how much it shows above the table.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the difference between high back and low back dining chairs? A high back chair supports more of your back and looks more formal. A lower back chair looks lighter, keeps sightlines open and suits compact rooms.

  • How tall are your dining chairs? Our marble dining pages list chairs of 43 cm by 43 cm. Most list a height of 89 cm; the Cream Italian, Golden Onyx and Royal Onyx sets list 82 cm.

  • Which is better for elders? A taller back gives more support for long family meals, so many elders find it more comfortable. Check that the seat is easy to get in and out of.

  • Do low back chairs suit small rooms? Yes. Lower backs look less bulky, especially when the chairs are pushed in, and they don't block windows or views.

  • Are the chair heights the same as the table height? No. The table is listed at 31 inches high; the chair heights above are the full height to the top of the backrest.
