• Queen size bed: 6 x 5 ft, about 72 inches long x 60 inches wide (about 183 x 152 cm).

• King size bed: 6 x 6 ft, about 72 inches long x 72 inches wide (about 183 x 183 cm).

• Bed box depth: 16 inches on both sizes, as listed.

• Headboard height: 4 ft on most designs, as listed.

The 6 x 5 ft and 6 x 6 ft figures describe the sleeping size. The outer frame, with headboard and side rails, takes more floor space. Because overall dimensions vary by design, ask us for the exact external size of the bed you like before you finalise your room plan.

Which mattress fits each bed

Our beds are sold without a mattress. As a guide:

• Queen bed (6 x 5 ft): a mattress of about 72 x 60 inches.

• King bed (6 x 6 ft): a mattress of about 72 x 72 inches.

• Check your mattress: mattress lengths and widths vary by maker, so a mattress sold as queen or king may not match these figures exactly. Measure your mattress, or check its label, and compare it with us before you order.

Room size and clearance

These are general planning tips, not fixed rules, because rooms, doors and furniture differ:

• Walking space: many people plan around 2 ft of clear space on each side they use and at the foot of the bed.

• Width check: add your walking space to the bed's overall width. A king needs about 1 ft more room width than a queen.

• Doors and drawers: check that wardrobe doors, the room door and any bed drawers can open fully once the bed is in place.
